Korean mega-publisher Nexon recently released its own version of the free-to-play looter shooter with The first descendantSince the genre’s birth over a decade ago, many titles have come and gone, but two have remained fairly consistently at the top: Digital Extremes’ Warframe and Bungie’s Destination franchise. The first descendant remains in the shadow of both, but the question on everyone’s mind is whether it benefits from those comparisons or suffers from them.

The first verdict is that it doesn’t look great. It’s only been a week and everyone seems to be talking about the games it emulates. more than what they talk about The first descendant. In case of DestinationNexon is even accused of looting art assets straight from the game. Our own Zack (yes, we have one) called it a “forgettable mashup of better games” after the extended playAt one point he even compares it to macaroni and cheese, and while the comparison is a little more favorable than it sounds (because who could hate macaroni and cheese), he’s still not exactly glowing.

Nexon is known for making games that are often riddled with microtransactions and play like knock-offs of larger, existing titles. Most of the talk I’ve heard about the game has been about the seemingly exhaustive microtransactions. After looking around to get a sense of how bad it is, the shit that The first descendant is trying to pull not Okay.

The going rate for some of the ultimate skins could cover a number of things, such as: a few simple meals, groceries, a few drinks for you, and some company at the nearest happy hour, tons of games on the Steam Summer Salea day at an amusement park, a hefty sum for an affordable flight, or you know, a bill or two.

Players aren’t too keen on these prizes, nor on the long list of things the game can monetize. However, they’ve been foaming at the mouth for a while now The first descendant‘s sexier skins and characters, like Ult Bunny, who comes complete with a tiddy window. So I don’t know, man. You win some, you lose some. Here’s a sample of some players’ intricate (and sometimes horny) thoughts on the matter The first descendant.
