Cowboys’ Roof Prescott – Precaution with hiking boots, it’s going ‘great’

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said Tuesday there is nothing wrong with his right ankle and that he was only wearing a running boot as a precaution.

Prescott was seen in a hiking boot while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in a photo posted last week on X. On Tuesday, at the youth soccer camp he hosts in Southlake, Texas, Prescott said he’s doing “awesome.”

“Honestly, I’m getting older. It’s the same ankle that I broke and I had a nasty operation four years ago, so a few hard days of training and you know, you get a little sore and you go fishing, and you want to protect it and make sure it doesn’t get worse,” he said.

“Literally, it’s nothing. People are reaching out, trying to make things that they’re not. I’m getting older and I have to take care of my body, have to be smart. If I can take precautions and reduce something by putting on a boot, I will. Sorry for causing so much trouble.”

Prescott underwent surgery in 2020 to repair an open fracture and dislocation of his right ankle after suffering the injury during a Week 5 win over the New York Giants.

Prescott, 30, who is entering the final year of his contract, which pays him $29 million for the 2024 season, also addressed his contract talks with the Cowboys, saying there have been “back and forth conversations” and that he is letting his agent handle negotiations.

“On the first day of training camp, I immediately think about helping my team and doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure I’m at my best and that everyone around me is performing at their best. Then everything will fall into place, as always,” he said.

The Cowboys will hold their first training camp on July 25.

Dallas is also in talks with No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb on a contract. Lamb, who will be a free agent after this season, skipped the team’s offseason program and mandatory minicamp because of his contract situation. Prescott, however, told reporters that he pitched to Lamb this offseason and will do so again for training camp, when he and the Cowboys pass catchers will work out together.

“CeeDee is ready,” Prescott said.
