WESTERN WASHINGTON — For most of us in Western Washington, the heat will be at its worst on Tuesday, with a predicted high in Seattle of 97°F, also a new daily record.
The number will be about 100 near the Cascades south of I-90 and in southern locations such as Olympia, Lewis County and Shelton.
Parts of central Washington will reach 106-110°F.
The heat warning has been extended through Wednesday for all of Western Washington, with extreme heat warnings in effect east of the Cascades.
From Tuesday onwards, the cooling current from the Pacific Ocean will start flowing along the beaches.
It will temper the heat somewhat in inland Western Washington on Wednesday, although Seattle’s expected high of 31°C is still about ten degrees warmer than average.
Temperatures will be around 25 to 35 degrees Celsius again on Thursday and Friday, with Seattle warming up again next weekend to around 35 degrees Celsius.
